RANGE ROVER ENTHUSIAST

Easter Rally

Easter starts us off on our camping trips.  This year we were very kindly invited to go with the Lincs Off Road Club.  It was based at Folkingham, which isn't far from us but never the less we still decided to get into the spirit of things and take the caravan.

With it being Garys birthday on the Friday I decided to book a meal at the local pub for nine of us and we were all really impressed with it and enjoyed the home cooking.

On Saturday some of the people went green laneing and a few of us that were remaining went off into the village.  The first stop was the chocolate shop where they make all of their own chocolates and different decoartive chocolate items.  We then ventured further into the village and into the village shop.  There was the usual village shop items and then when we went deeper into the shop there was little trinket bits, sofa throws, cushions etc.  The day continued and we were back at the camp site chilling out.  Gradually the green laners started to return, full of news of their adventures. (see some of the pictures below and their story).  It was then barbeque for tea and off into the Old Cart shed for a quiz which was organised by the Lincs Off Road Chairmans daughter, and what a good job she did.  We then had a raffle with an aray of different prizes.  Early morning and we started to all venture back to the caravans.

Sunday and all the kids were up early to take part in the Easter egg hunt, and I think all of them found at least one.  They all then had breakfast, which was no dought easter egg and then they were ready to go to play the games that had been organised for them.  Some of the adults at this point had gone off green laneing again, mind you it was a god dry weekend to get a good look around at the Lincolnshire countryside.  Evening soon came around again and it was barbeque again and then off to the pub for the quiz.  Bed time soon came around again and the daunting thought of home time.

GREEN LANE TALES:

The day started with glorious sunshine and several clean vehicles with reasonable standard body parts.  They were all reved up and raring to go, as for some people this was their first time out this year.  The first part of the run was really pleasant with just nice dusty tracks and a splendid view of the Lincolnshire countryside, this is the pleasure of it being so flat, you can see for miles.  Continuing a few miles further the first obsticle they need to concor is a ford, unfortunately, as many people know, without the correct equipment, V8 petrol and water just do not mix and the result is this

The next thing they came up against was nothing to do with Mother Nature, but a farmer with his dumper truck.  A quick chat and they were soon on their way again heading towards Grantham area and the Viking way.  This is where Green Laneing dissappeared and off roading came in, and body panel damage began.

I some times wonder if we forget where reverse is in these vehicles!  Never the less home they all came some limping slightly and others very triumphant, awaiting their next adventure.

I would just like to say thanks to the Lincs Off Road members for making us very welcome and look forward to welcoming them to any of our events that they wish to attend.

EARLY MAY BANK HOLIDAY

We had a trip out with our caravans to the Rutland Arms, at Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir, near Belvoir castel.  There was only four couples there but we had planned to have a relaxing weekend and that is exactly what we had.  On the Saturday we went off into Grantham shopping and then on the Sunday we were off to Peterborough for the Truck Fest.  I must say seeing some of those paint jobs on the lorries was really impressive, however I don't think I'll be putting brushed velvet cyrtains with gold tassels in my car.

Our area rep though will take on anything to ensure we have a good day and he won't let even the predator get in our way.

On the Monday we went to the street market in Denton near Grantham to pick up a few bargains and then it was time to pack things up and head for home.

DODDINGTON SHOW

Off to Doddington show we went and I must say it was with a little apprehention thanks to the weather forecaster saying we were in for heavy rain all weekend.  Never the less on we went and it was glorious sunshine.  We had a good line up of seven cars on Saturday and eight on the Sunday with the addition of a sport from a visitor, taking us up to nine.  This then gave us a full range of the vehicles.

Next stop Bourne Classic Car & Bike Show

This is the second Bourne Classic Car and Bike Show and once again the weather was beautiful.  We had the usual turn out of vehicles with the exception of the P38's.  Lots of people were coming up to us asking questions about the cars and the club.  Nigel once again was elected to do the talking on the PA system, and what a good job he made of it, giving all the history of both the club and Range Rovers.  Dave Blackburn was loving it showing off his new winch.

Nigel then decided to put his Range Rover into reverse and drop down into the old cress beds, he said it was to give Dave a chance to demonstrate his winch.

LANDROVER FEST at PETERBOROUGH

This is our major annual show.  Organised by Live Promotions, this show is growing every year.  The location makes it an excellent site as its just off of the A1 plus for the people who want to camp over there is plenty of room.

Our stand was in a prime position and we had lots of people looking around the vehicles and many of which took away information on the club.  We met a few members from different areas who had taken the time to come down and pay a visit and then we had them put their Range Rovers on the stand and on the Sunday we went into the arena, could do with a better compare though.

The weekend goes by so quickly and we were soon packing up

Last Show of the Year

Off we went to the fith annual Newark Vintage Tractor Show.  This show is expanding in to more than tractors now and this year they advertised for more Land Rovers to attend.  Unfortunately not all of our area members could attend on the Saturday so with four caravans, six Range Rovers on the Saturday and then an additional three on the Sunday we were quite impressed with our display.  This year also the show was offering a trophy to the best Land Rover, which unfortunately didn't come to the Range Rovers but went to a very worthy winner of a 1952 series 1 Land Rover.

However to Garys delight threw the post today he received a certificate for Class Winner, and here is his prized certificate  How pleased is he..

Its always at least a bit chilly at the show but us Lincolnshire lot still keep braving it.  Here are a couple more pics of the show.

AND FINALLY

Off we went to a very nice fish restauraunt in Boston, this was for our Christmas meal and it was absolutely delicious. There was only eight of us that went but as they keep saying it isn't the quantity its the quality that counts and one can only assume that goes for everything.  (People pictured from left Anne, Kevin, Dave, Olivia, Elaine, Gary and Nigel).
