RANGE ROVER ENTHUSIAST

And so we begin again. Easter weekend

Easter came and we went off to different areas.  Some members decided that for the third year running they would stay locally and camped at Folkingham with Lincs Off Road, however Nigel, Elaine, Gary and myself thought we'd live a little and go further afield to Reedham in Norfolk.  The site called Reedham Ferry Touring Park, is situated in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, and close to nearby Norwich and Great Yarmouth.  They are an ideal setting for a holiday in Norfolk. 4 acre landscaped site with

  • Barbecue Area
  • Fishing Lake
  • River frontage
  • Ferry to nearby Suffolk
  • 17th century Ferry Inn
  • Natural settings

It was a nice site, although a little packed because the weekend was busy, but the pub on site, The Reedham Ferry Inn sold lovely food and the staff was very pleasant.

The weather over the weekend was good, we had a couple of light rain showers but him upstairs was being good to us because where ever we went the rain that was there dissappeared.  We would definately go back.

This is a picture of the Humpty Dumpty Brewery, which Gary and Nigel assure me is a good brew.               Then there was the Muckleborough Collection. - SB

Cleethorpes Transport Extravaganza. Mayday weekend

A weekend away at Cleethorpes Transport Extravaganza.  The first bank holiday in May found a small collective of range rovers on their way to Cleethorpes (with the added beer festival on site).  The Lincs and Cambs area felt it our duty as RRR members to sample as many beers, lagers and ciders as possible over 3 days!  Friday evening was basically setting up time next to a spectacular view of the lake but was done rather quickly so the festivities could begin.  Steve being a tad on the late side (midnight).

Saturday the first day of the free show and being as we were three rangies short this year we decided that we would add some alternative modes of transport to our stand.  These being a Ferguson tractor (narrow axled "eh Dave"), a 350 AJS motorcycle and a BSA Bantam.  Along with Nigel and Elaines P38, Steve and Olivias Vogue SE, Daves unfinished carawagon (in off road mode) and my carawagon (sadly Kev's trophy winning two door had to stay at home due to my cracked ankle) made up our display.  By the end of day one we were chatted out and hungry so off for a chinese and more sampling of local brews whilst some boogied to the band.

Woken on Sunday at an unearthly hour by Daves night heater howling and belching smoke, a full english fry up set us up for another busy, if not windy day (if you get my drift), but still finding time to go for a spin on the railway before tea at the pub and drinks with old friends.

Monday was cold and windy but Dave still managed to strike up his tractor at what seemed like dawn to go to the local shop for milk and papers but after a make shift breakfast in the carawagon and hardly anyone coming through the gate we only drank coffee and packed away.

The show overall is a growing friendly concern and the organisers have asked us back again next year along with any other members who wish to go.... There is more to do in Lincolnshire than you think!!!

Spring bank hol weekend, Rose & Crown Holbeech Hurn.

And so here we go again this weekend we all decided to have a lazy sunny weekend and by god it was sunny  and lazy and as usuall  a beer or two, Steve managed to turn up at a respectable time this weekend so all managed to meet and greet before making our way to the pub for a good boogy and sing along with the disco & karaoke and of course we were all good enough for the Xfactor OH YES WE WERE.

On the sat we had a good rumage around Holbeech then on to the sand dunes of the Wash and aircraft firing range (big signs saying dont touch anything ) oops, when we got back Dave & Debbie turned up but forgot there trailertent an excuse not to put it up for the first time infront of a crowd we think, so it was the off to the pub for a meal  and  drinks.

Sunday was a day to relax play football drink even more beer and of course get sunburnt hee hee Gary. Out came the BBQ  and food was cooked and eaten as darkness fell we only felt it right to visit the pub as they had looked after us well all weekend they had another disco & karaoke and for another laugh we joined in with the locals as well even Sue had a personal stripper as Gary was to sunburnt to do anything except sit & brink again.

Monday was another sunny day to chill untill it was time to pack away and head for home with all of us within an hour away from home you could say it was a good journy home, sorry not many pics for the weekend except one that Steve took as we were leaving..............Till next time - NW

BILLING LANDROVER SHOW

Our BIlling Report.....Tuesday saw us make our annual pilgrimage to the legend that is Billing( not Newark).
Parked in our usual spot the sun blazed down as we set up our small "Burt Camp". As we had promised ourselves we would drink beer EVERY day we soon had two cracked open, this continued into the night.
Wednesday had a lazy day on sun loungers drinking beer
Thursday  out and about on bikes doing a bit of shopping and ending up at pub for  "berry spritzers" (gin,J2O and lemonade)
Friday saw the show open and although  showers came and went we "decarpeted" Kev`s two door and we headed for the off road course with one of our pit crew behind us and the promise that they would tow us back "when" we broke down. Oh they of little faith......everything was fine upto the point where we joined a que behind a discovery and a freelander which was struggling to get out of a boggy hole. The temp. gauge steadily rose until it couldn`t take the excitement anymore and it cut out, leaving us parked and bird watching for 15 minutes until it cooled enough to burst back into life and carry on towards the lake.
After hearing tales of how deep the lake was,the rangie plunged head on into the murky waters. Luckily for us it wasn`t trhat deep and we had wasted our time pulling all the carpets ouit and we roared V8 style and on to the mud run where an old series had ground to a holt, undetered  Kev took the red route and again came out the other side victorious .Back to camp for victory beer, then nosh up at "Vinnies".
Saturday... the first day of the show proper, really hunting down those elusive two door spares.....only coming out with back light lenses and a wading bib just in case we come across anymore"deep "water...... In the evening we sat with our off road club and Lance made a now legendry curry....not too hot and goes well with beer.
It was strange not seeing the other " Burts " but we wore our shirts with pride and had a Cracking Good Time. - Words from Anne & Kev

THE ALL NEW LANDROVER SHOW AT NEWARK SHOWGROUND

As most people are aware the Landrover show at Billing and Newark took place on the same weekend.  This most people thought was a silly thing to do as each show would have to not only share the visitors but also the exhibitors and traders.  The Lincs/Cambs area however managed to attend both.

Those of us that attended had been given the ok to have our vehicles on the Range Rover Register club stand so we arrived at the show ground on the Thursday night and retired to bed early so we could spend time getting the vehicles ready and then have plenty of time to go around the show.  The morning begun quite nice however as the day went on it unfortunately deteriated and along with the wind came the rain.  Fortunately they were only showers however they were heavy and went on for a while.

Weather aside, we did however have a good weekend and hope that it goes ahead next year, only not at the same time as Billing. - SB

REVESBY SHOW

Once again we made our annual trip to Revesby Country show.  We had a good turn out of two carawagons, two x two door classics and two x four door classics followed by two P38's.  The weather stayed good all day and everyone was invited back to Nigel and Elaines for a BBQ.  (If they're not thinking of alcohol it's food). - SB

LRO SHOW PETERBOROUGH

This to me is the best show we attend all year.  There is plenty to see, and should you want to, do.  Gary, myself and Nigel arrived mid morning and began to set up.  Around lunch time saw the arrival of Deb, Dave, Anne and Kev.  Once it was agreed that it had gone mid day the beer was cracked open.

Tea time arrived and so did Elaine with Matt and his buddy, James and then when darkness fell Steve and Olivia arrived.  Once everyone was settled we congregated around Kevs new fire, of which some may call a BBQ, but Dave became the Fire Starter and he commanded light, and there was light, along with smoke, sparks and flames. ha ha.  The night went on with friendly banter of Southerners V Northerners and as we had been asked to open the show and be the first people in the main arena the following morning, we also began to rehearse our lines and advise each other on what we should say.  Funny how we changed it though when we got into the arena - Dave you know what I mean.

Saturday -As previously mentioned we had our turn in the arena and was asked very technical questions by Jeremy Thurstan, things like 'have you ever had a snog in your Range Rover', there was me worried he was going to ask things like what bhp or torque it had.  We then set the vehicles up on the stand in order of type, keeping the P38s together to celebrate the 15th anniversary.  Everyone took it in turns to go around the show to ensure the stand was manned at all times and then we would all chat about our purchases.  Whilst sitting on the stand I noticed that the rear bumper end cap on my drivers side wasn't level so Nigel and I went over to take a look, while we did Gary looked at the other one.  The one I was looking at Nigel said just needed altering so out came the spanners however the one Gary had was broken.  "Never mind", I said, "I'll get some more this weekend".  How wrong could I be.  It's always the same when you don't want them you see them all over the place and then when you do you can't find any worth buying, so the rest of the weekend everyone kept pointing at the bumper.  Good talking point though.

When the evening arrived we decided we would help Deb achieve one of her dreams, because although the alcohol ahd flowed freely the night previous we could all remember her saying she wanted to go on the bumper cars.  Off we went and took over half of the cars.  All I could hear along with the music was Deb and Elaine laughing their heads off.

Sunday arrived all too soon and we began to take the awnings down mid afternoon ready to depart the show once it had closed.  Here is to next year. - SB

Christmas & New Year

This year out christmas party was held at the Merry Monk in Kirton organised by Kev and Ann (thanks) followed live music from a local rockband playing all our younger days rock music and some upto date things aswell for our enjoyment,

As you can see a good time was had by all.

Over the last 7 to 8 years our local'ish members have got together for a new year bash usually down at my local pub who lays on a fantastick buffet pluss a live band all for free, then sleeping of the after affects at my pad either in caravans or spare rooms.

But this year my local had nothing on due to Richard the landlord moving to the Coach & Horses at Billinghay so we decided to go and visit him by mass yes he had the buffet and live band on so we was'nt dissapionted, our only ruling is you have to be in fancy dress as you can see we was nearly the only ones in fancy dress to........BRING ON NEXT NEW YEAR
