RANGE ROVER ENTHUSIAST

MEMBERS MOTORS

Here is my Range Rover.  It is a 1989 Vogue SE 3.5 V8 automatic in Beluga Black.

This is a couple of days after I purchased it in 2002.

Myself and Gary bought this one after purchasing a 1986 Range Rover which was a total nightmare and had major problems.  We both hold our hands up and do not pretend to be a mechanic but lets just say if we had attached our caravan to  it we would have left half the car and the caravan behind, and yes it was purchased from a garage.  Enough said and after  a few phone calls we got our money back and was able to get the G reg.

It has had 7 owners from new and was originally purchased for £29,500.00.

The technical info is: It has an EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) engine which is similar to the ones which were used in the Rover cars from 1970.  The differences being that the Range Rover was tuned for lower end torque.  The air injection system also allows the fuel to be burned more completely.  It has a four speed automatic gear box with a Borg-Warner two speed transfer case and viscous coupling unit, providing full time four wheel drive.  This was also changed to chain driven to help reduce noise.A smaller position shifter for automatic locking transfer case is fitted.

An additional two speakers have been added into the front door panels making a total of six.  Larger storage pockets are fitted into the front door panels.  The doors also have  smooth fitting interior locks.  The hinges are also hidden where previously they were exposed, and the front washer jets are also heated.

The vehicle was going to be left as original however I have had a few changes and they are

  • CD Player
  • Electrics for towing
  • 5 spoke free style alloy wheels
  • LPG (now dual fuel)
  • Chrome front bumper
  • Chrome strip on rear bumper
  • Chrome hitch plate
  • Stone chip light guards

I think it looks better.

I have spent an absolute fortune on this car and recently made a list of what I have had replaced and other than body panels, axles, engine (although I have got a 3.9 waiting) and some of the interior, everything else has been replaced.

Preparing to replace the rear cross member.                                  Before replacing the floor this was cleaned.                                        Work in progress by the area rep.

I never intended to off road this Range Rover, however some of the shows we go to I often think I've changed my mind.  The final picture is how it stands at present, but as ALL LandRover owners are aware, it's always an ongoing project.   It has the original paintwork and has done a little over 130,000 on the original engine.  I use it every day to take me to work, so it isn't just out and about on good days and show days.

The next thing to do is replace the rear lower tailgate, here we go body panels, and then shes up and ready for shows again.

As you can see on the Diary Dates page, we have lots of shows to go to this year, so please feel free to drop by and see us and see my Black Beauty in the flesh.
